Chaturmas 2024: The month which lasts for four months is known as Chaturmas. Chaturmas has great importance in Hinduism and it is considered very important. Chaturmas is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
When does Chaturmas start?
Chaturmas begins on the Ekadashi date of the Shukla Paksha of the Ashad month. This day is known as Devshayani Ekadashi. On the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu, the saviour of the universe, goes into Yog Nidra and after this the month of Sawan begins and Lord Shiva takes the reins of the world in his hands after Vishnu goes into Yog Nidra.
The four month long Chaturmas ends on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi. On this day Lord Vishnu wakes up and takes the reins of the world in his hands. Auspicious and auspicious works begin from the day of Devuthani Ekadashi.
In the year 2024, Devuthani Ekadashi is falling on 12th November. Auspicious works will start from this day. Devuthani Ekadashi falls on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.

Auspicious works are not done during Chaturmas. Auspicious works start only after Devuthani Ekadashi. Bholenath and Mata Lakshmi are worshipped during these four months. Engagement, tonsure, marriage, naming ceremony and housewarming should not be done during Chaturmas. Tamasic food should not be consumed during these four months. During this time, do Jaap, meditation, recitation and self-introspection. Charity and good deeds have special importance during these four months.
