Chhath Puja 2024 Sandhya Arghya: Chhath is the festival of Sun worship. The third day of the four-day long Chhath Puja is considered important. On this day, there is a tradition of offering Arghya to the setting sun. This is the only festival in which there is a tradition of offering Arghya to the setting sun.

Timing of Evening Arghya (Chhath Puja 2024 Evening Arghya Date and Time)

On the third day of Chhath festival, on the Shashti Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha, Arghya is offered to the Sun God at the time of sunset in the evening. This year Sandhya Arghya is on 7 November 2024. According to astrologer Anish Vyas, the time to offer Arghya to the Sun on this day will be till 5.29 pm.

What happens on the third day of Chhath festival?

  • After Kharna on Panchami Tithi, on Shashthi Tithi i.e. on the day of Evening Arghya, Chhath Vrat is observed without water throughout the day and night. Eating or drinking anything is prohibited on this day. The fast is broken on the next day i.e. Saptami Tithi.
  • By decorating thekua, konia, coconut, fruits etc. in a bamboo soup or dala, the devotee circumambulates and offers Arghya to the setting sun.
  • Before sunset, the Chhath fasti and the entire family reach the banks of the pond, river or ghat for evening Arghya. After this, Arghya is offered to Lord Bhaskar with water and milk.
  • Chhathi Maiya is also worshipped. There is also a tradition of night vigil on the sixth day of Chhath festival.
  • After offering Arghya to Sun God on the third day, the ritual is completed with Usha Arghya on the fourth day. On Shashthi Tithi, the soup and daala decorated with fruits and prasad are worshipped, on the fourth day again these soup and daala are taken to the ghat and worshiped by offering Arghya.
