Congress Party has nominated Youth Congress State President Akash Sharma as its candidate from this seat. Akash Sharma is young. In Raipur South, along with Brahmin and business voters, Muslim voters play a decisive role.
Raipur is the only seat in South Pradesh where maximum number of Muslim candidates contest elections, although no candidate gets many votes but it is believed that candidates are fielded in this manner as a strategy to distribute Muslim votes.
