CJI DY Chandrachud: Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud recently participated in the 9th National Annual Stakeholder Consultation on Child Protection. During this, he shared the reason behind his becoming vegan.
He said it is about adopting a lifestyle in which cruelty is not accepted. He said his daughter has inspired him to live a ‘cruelty-free life’.
Mentioned about his daughter Mahi
During this time the CJI talked about his daughter Mahi. She said she loves the environment. She believes in living a cruelty-free life. He has 8 cats. He further said, “She keeps asking to live a cruelty-free life. It took her 10 years to convince me and sometimes it takes a lot of time to convince the judges too.”
Told the reason behind being vegan
Explaining the reason behind going vegan, the CJI said, ‘I adopted vegetarianism because vegetarianism does not just mean being vegetarian and excluding dairy and honey from your diet. It also means adopting a lifestyle in which cruelty is not accepted.
Let us tell you that earlier during a program he had told that now he and his wife do not buy products made of silk or leather. For this also his daughters encouraged him. His daughters told him this was not enough. He asked her to ensure that she did not wear anything that was a product of cruelty.

Vegan means that a person does not consume any food derived from animals (such as meat, eggs or dairy products). Apart from this, he also does not use animal products like leather.
