China Invests in Pakistan: A Chinese business delegation met President Asif Ali Zardari here and expressed interest in investing one billion dollars to set up a medical city in Pakistan. This information was given in a media report. Pakistan has strong bilateral relations with China, which has supported Pakistan through several investments and development projects.
Among these projects is the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, which has been called the ‘lifeline’ for the country’s economy. During a meeting with Zardari on Thursday (December 12, 2024), a delegation of Chinese investors outlined their plans to invest one billion dollars in building a medical city in Karachi’s Dhabeji Economic Zone. This economic zone is outside Pakistan’s largest city and financial center.
Meeting between Sindh government and Chinese investors
The Medical City will be Pakistan’s first fully integrated pharmaceutical and medical ecosystem. Korangi Trade and Industry Association (KATI) has been entrusted with the responsibility of operating the Dhabeji Economic Zone. KATI said in a statement that this promise made by Chinese investors is an example of the growing economic relations between the two countries. The meeting was held after successful talks between the Sindh government and a group of Chinese investors, which was also attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Consul General of China.
According to the statement, President Zardari highlighted the importance of promoting deeper economic and trade cooperation between Pakistan and China.
What is CPEC project?
The CPEC project between China and Pakistan is worth $62 billion, which is being built from China’s Kashgar to Pakistan’s Arabian Sea port Gwadar. The main focus of CPEC is to develop Gwadar Port. However, India has always opposed the CPEC project. That is because this project is passing through Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
