India China Relation: Amidst the ongoing tension on the Indian border, China can appoint its next ambassador to India. There is no Chinese ambassador to India for about 15 months. According to the information received, China can appoint senior diplomat Xu Feihong as India’s ambassador. Xu Feihong has served as ambassador to Afghanistan. Apart from this, he has also been the Ambassador of China to Romania.
At present, Xu Feihong is currently holding the responsibility of Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs in China. However, the formalities for the appointment of the new envoy have still not been completed and it is not clear when he will actually assume office.
According to a report of Times of India, there has been an atmosphere of tension between China and India for a long time regarding the border dispute. China’s previous ambassador to India, Sun Weidong, withdrew in October 2022. The delay in the appointment of the new ambassador comes at a time of the most tension between the two sides. According to the report, this tension increased significantly after the Galwan Valley conflict of 2020.
India has repeatedly stressed on paying attention to bilateral agreements to maintain peace and stability on the border. However, both the countries have deployed a large number of armies in the border area. Because of this, there is still a situation of tension on the border.
Military and diplomatic talks were held several times between India and China to completely resolve the deadlock in eastern Ladakh. During this period, India has been of the clear opinion that relations can progress only by maintaining peace on the border. At the same time, China dismissed the India-China border tension as a historical issue. Also criticized linking the border tension with the relations between the two countries. Regarding bilateral relations, China says that the border issue should not be linked to bilateral relations.
