China on America: A top Chinese diplomat says that the Asia-Pacific region is not enough to contain China, so the US has created an “Indo-Pacific” concept aimed at involving India and its other allies.
The Indo-Pacific is a biogeographic region that includes the Indian Ocean, including the South China Sea, and the western and central Pacific Ocean. The US, India and several other world powers have been talking about the need to ensure a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific in the backdrop of China’s increasing military activities in the resource-rich region.

During a conversation with the media on December 7 (Wednesday), Chinese Ambassador to France Lu Shaye said, “America conceptualized the Indo-Pacific to control China. In fact, there is no such concept as ‘Indo-Pacific’ in geopolitics.

Quoting Lu, known as China’s ‘wolf warrior’ diplomat, the website of the Chinese Embassy in France said, “In the past we used to talk about the Pacific or the Asia-Pacific region, about the ‘Indo-Pacific’ never.” ‘Wolf warrior’ diplomacy is all about confrontation and standing firm, with supporters openly opposing any perceived criticism of the Chinese government.

Lu Shaye said, “Why did the Americans include the Indian Ocean? Because they believe that their Asia-Pacific allies alone are not enough to contain China, they want to bring in other allies of the US, such as India and France, who consider themselves Indo-Pacific countries. This statement has come in the midst of a clash between China and India in Arunachal.
