chirag shetty satwiksairaj reddy reaches badminton paris olympics 2024 mens double quarterfinals bwf rules helped indian duo

India Badminton at Paris Olympics 2024: In badminton, India’s team of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Reddy has created history. This team of Chirag-Satwik has reached the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles event of Paris Olympics 2024 without playing its last match. Actually, the pair of Chirag-Satwik was placed in Group C, which also included the team of Mark Lamsfab and Marvin Seidel of Germany. Unfortunately, due to Lamsfab’s injury, the German team has been eliminated from the Paris Olympics. His exit hurt the Indian team’s chances of reaching the quarterfinals.

The good news for India is that the rules of the Badminton World Federation have proved to be beneficial for India. The rule says that after the elimination of Mark Lamsfab and Marvin Seidel, any match that they have played or are going to play in the group stage will not be recognized. That means now only 3 teams are left in Group C. India and the Indonesian team have won one match each, while France’s Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar have been eliminated from the tournament after losing both their matches. Therefore, India and Indonesia have qualified for the quarterfinals.

The big fight will be held on 30th July

India and Indonesia will face each other to secure the top spot in Group C. Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Reddy are the world number five team in men’s doubles, while they will face Fajar Alfian and Mohammad Rian Adrianto, the world number four team, on July 30. Two top-5 teams of the world will be facing each other and the winner of this match will decide who will top Group C. In the last three clashes, Chirag-Satwik have emerged victorious against this Indonesian pair every time.
