Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel deployed for the security of Indira Gandhi Airport have arrested three accused, including a gold smuggling passenger. Two people were helping the passenger in taking the gold out of the airport. CISF has recovered 1.2 kg of gold from the possession of the three accused. Its price is estimated to be around Rs 80 lakh. CISF has handed over the three accused to the Customs Department.
The CISF officer said that on Sunday afternoon, at quarter to three, the CISF personnel present at the airport saw two people wandering in a suspicious condition in the arrival forecourt area. The soldiers increased surveillance on them. At around 4 pm, both of them met a traveler who had come from Muscat. After this the passenger and a suspicious person entered the toilet. After some time both of them came out of the toilet. CISF detained all three and interrogated them on suspicion of being involved in smuggling. The passenger was identified as Mohammad Fariyad, while the other two suspects were identified as Mohammad Yunus Ahmed Ali and Ramzan Ali.
During the search, 1.2 kg gold was recovered from them. During interrogation, it was revealed that Mohammad Fariyad had reached India from Muscat via Riyadh. All three accused admitted to being involved in gold smuggling. Officials said that the passenger had brought the gold hidden in white packing. CISF officials handed over the three accused to the Customs Department. Custom officials are interrogating the three accused and taking further legal action.
