What is nemaline myopathy?
Health experts say that nemaline myopathy is a congenital disorder in which problems related to muscles occur. In this disease the muscle protein starts getting destroyed. This disease badly affects the muscles and it becomes difficult for the patient to move.
This disease affects the muscles around the neck and jaw due to which the patient faces difficulty in breathing, swallowing, eating and even speaking. Let us tell you that at present there is no cure for it and this disease is so rare that it affects only one in fifty thousand people.
Symptoms and treatment of nemaline myopathy
This disorder is congenital and develops as the child grows. When children fall prey to this disease, their muscles start becoming weak. He faces difficulty in walking. The child feels a lot of pain while speaking. Sometimes, due to weakening of muscles, even the shape of the child’s face changes.
When the muscles become weak, the joints of the body start tightening due to which the child feels pain while moving. He also starts having difficulty in getting up and sitting. Talking about treatment, no cure is possible for this disease. But with the help of physiotherapy its symptoms can be controlled. When the condition worsens such that the patient is unable to breathe, the help of ventilation is taken. Patients are also helped through speech therapy.
