Telangana: A fierce clash broke out between Congress and BRS workers in Jangaon, Telangana. In this clash, workers threw chairs at each other and also accused each other of throwing eggs. Seeing the fight escalating, the police resorted to heavy lathicharge. Videos of the clash are now being shared widely on social media.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy was coming to Erragunta Thanda in Jangaon district to launch some schemes. Even before his arrival, a clash broke out between BRS and Congress workers, due to which the authorities had to cancel the minister’s visit.
The controversy started when local MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy reached the venue with BRS workers. The police stopped some BRS workers from entering here. After this, BRS supporters raised slogans of ‘Jai Palla, Jai BRS’. Congress workers also started raising slogans of ‘Jai Congress’ and ‘Palla Go Back’. This sloganeering soon turned into a scuffle and the workers started throwing chairs at each other. Many chairs are also seen broken in the video.

BRS leader injured in lathi charge
Amidst the clash, MLA Palla was also accused of throwing eggs by Congress workers. Seeing the matter escalating, the police lathicharged the BRS workers, injuring some people, including a former BRS sarpanch, eight ward members and other leaders. The BRS MLA and some other leaders along with him were also detained. In view of the tension, the minister’s visit was immediately cancelled. The scheme was also launched under the supervision of higher officials instead of the minister.
Demand for release of BRS leaders
Former BRS minister and senior MLA T. Harish Rao condemned the police action, calling it undemocratic and repressive. Criticizing the Congress government, he said that this is not public administration but public oppression. He has also demanded the immediate release of the arrested MLA, former Sarpanch and ward members as well as strict action against the police personnel. BRS leader K. Kavita also condemned the police in this case and demanded the release of the arrested BRS leaders.
