Congress Jairam Ramesh hits out on PM Narendra Modi statement on Manipur Violence in Parliament Session 2024

PM Modi’s speech on Congress: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Wednesday (July 3), PM Modi gave a statement on Manipur violence in Rajya Sabha. PM Modi said that every possible effort is being made for peace in Manipur. However, now Congress General Secretary and MP Jairam Ramesh has attacked the Prime Minister’s statement on Manipur. He said that the PM should have broken his silence earlier.

Jairam Ramesh said, “Why did the PM not break his silence? Why did the PM not meet the CM? Why did he not talk to MPs and MLAs? He should have broken his silence earlier. He visits different countries, but he cannot go to Manipur. This would have sent a message that the Prime Minister is concerned about the situation.”

What did Jairam Ramesh say on PM Modi’s statement?

Jairam Ramesh said, “What the Prime Minister has said about Manipur in the Rajya Sabha is completely opposite to the reality. Manipur has been burning since May 3, 2023. There is tension between different communities, there has been violence. In February 2022, the BJP and its allies got more than two-thirds of the votes and in just 15 months, Manipur started burning. Till date the Prime Minister has not visited Manipur. Even today he was forced to talk about it. Even today the people of Manipur are asking why the Prime Minister does not come.”

Questions raised on President’s speech

The Congress general secretary also raised questions on the President’s address. He said that there was not much mention of Manipur in the President’s address. On July 1, Inner Manipur MP Bimol Akoijam also said that Manipur was not mentioned. What is this hypocrisy?

He said that when the opposition walked out of the House, the opposition leader was not given a chance to refute the lies being repeatedly told by the PM. When the opposition walked out, the PM said a few words about Manipur. The words he used were different from reality. Even today the people of Manipur are asking why the PM is not visiting Manipur. This is hypocrisy.
