Rahul Gandhi resigns Wayanad seat: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resigned from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala on Tuesday (18 June). A notification regarding this has been issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Rahul Gandhi had formally informed the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office of retaining the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat and leaving the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. Earlier on Monday (17 June), Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had announced Priyanka Gandhi’s candidature from Wayanad.
Priyanka Gandhi had said on Monday that she would contest the by-election from Wayanad, but her decades-old relationship with Amethi and Rae Bareli would continue.
If Priyanka Gandhi wins the election from Wayanad, then three members of the Gandhi family will be in Parliament. Sonia Gandhi in Rajya Sabha and Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in Lok Sabha.
Congress is regaining lost ground in Uttar Pradesh
After Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resigned from one of the two seats he won, the number of Congress members in the Lok Sabha has now become 98. Wayanad seat will be the first seat to be by-election in the 18th Lok Sabha.
Looking at the results of this Lok Sabha election, Congress seems to be regaining its lost ground in Uttar Pradesh. The party contested 17 seats in UP, out of which its candidates won six seats.
Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh is one of the strongholds of the Gandhi family, which was represented for a long time by Rahul Gandhi’s mother Sonia Gandhi. The Gandhi family has won 20 Lok Sabha seats in Rae Bareli so far. Lok Sabha ElectionsOut of these, it has won 17.
Rahul defeated BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh in Rae Bareli by 3 lakh 90 thousand 30 votes and CPI candidate Annie Raja in Wayanad by 3 lakh 64 thousand 422 votes.
