Corona Omicron Sub-Variant BF7 Impact On India Not Severe As China Expert Opinion

Omicron Sub-Variant BF.7: Due to the new variant of Corona in China, BF.7, the situation is getting worse. Hundreds of people are getting infected daily. An increase in the death toll is also being recorded. Amidst the worsening situation in China, India has also become cautious and has already started taking all those measures to avoid any dangerous situation, so that Kovid can be prevented from spreading in the country. On the one hand, where there is an outcry due to Corona in China, on the other hand the situation in India is under control. Now the question arises why the impact of Omicron’s BF.7 variant on India is not as serious as that of China?

BF.7 is a sub-variant of Omicron, because Omicron is a variant of Corona, which caused havoc in India during the third wave. The BF.7 is the only sub-variant that is currently wreaking havoc in China. During the last three months, four cases of this variant have also been reported in India. There is no need to panic at the moment considering the current Covid situation in India. Dr. Rakesh Mishra, director of the Tata Institute for Genetics and Society, has tried to dispel the apprehensions emerging among people regarding this variant.

He said that this variant may not be as dangerous for India as it is for China. Dr. Mishra has told about two such reasons, on the basis of which it can be assumed that the BF.7 variant will not create a serious situation in India, unless we are lax.

1. India has already passed through the Omicron wave

China did not face the severe waves of Kovid due to its strict ‘Zero Kovid Policy’, which India has done. India has suffered the brunt of three waves during the Corona epidemic. This is the reason why people in India have now become immune. The Omicron variant of Corona had infected many people in January 2022, due to which natural immunity against it has now developed in people. Dr. Mishra explained that most people in India have passed through the Omicron wave, so we need not worry about it.

2. India has more vaccination coverage than China

The impact of Omicron’s BF.7 variant on India will not be as serious as that of China, because its corona vaccination coverage is much higher than that of China. A large number of people in India are corona vaccinated. Since the start of the vaccination drive in January 2021, India has so far given more than 220 crore vaccine doses to the people. This includes the first, second and booster doses. 98 percent of adults in the country have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while more than 90 percent of adults are fully vaccinated. China’s vaccination coverage has been low, especially among the elderly population. This is the reason why the elderly population of China is getting more infected and affected than the youth.
