Coronavirus Cases: In the new wave of Covid-19 in Singapore, infection cases have reached a peak but there is no need to implement additional measures such as wearing face masks in the country. In fact, amidst rumors spreading about Corona in Singapore, the country’s Health Minister Ong Ye Kung gave this information.
“There may be a slight increase in COVID-19 infections, but I think we are more or less at the end of this wave,” Channel News Asia quoted Ong as saying at the inauguration of a health complex in Woodlands, northern Singapore, on Friday (Dec 22). We are seeing a peak of 600 to 700 beds for Corona patients in hospitals. “
Health Minister told his assessment
He further said that having patients on 600 or 700 beds means that six-seven percent of the beds are infected patients, which is not less. This is a huge pressure on our health workers and our system. Ong added, “Nonetheless, I think our assessment remains that we can cope without additional SMMs (safe management measures).
Serious cases can reach extreme
The Health Minister said that the estimated number of infections has decreased in the last few days, so we have become stable. At the same time, Alex Cook, Associate Professor at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore, warned that after mild cases, serious cases may reach their peak. In this situation we need to remain alert. According to the report, the number of infected people in the country during November 12-18 was 10,726, while during December 10-16 it increased to 58,300.
Fear because of Christmas and New Year
Recognizing that the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays will bring the possibility of the virus spreading, Minister Ong encouraged Singaporeans to exercise personal responsibility by wearing masks and staying home if sick, and to stay up to date with vaccinations.
