The court has given its verdict in the case of robbery of 8.26 lakhs from the son of a silver merchant of Kamla Nagar in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, 31 years ago. Special Judge Bandit Prabhav Kshetra Ranveer Singh has sentenced the then policeman Bhagirath, resident of Moti Katra of Thana Gadwatha, Jhansi, Sanjay Gupta alias Titu, resident of Shastripuram, Sikandra and Ramniwas, resident of Kalindi Vihar, Trans Yamuna, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 50 thousand rupees each.

Silver merchant Bhagwan Das Gupta, resident of Adarsh ​​Nagar, Kamla Nagar, had filed a complaint in Hariparvat police station. He had alleged that his son Bhuvan Prakash had left home for Delhi on the morning of 22 December 1993 along with his cousin Titu alias Sanjay, watchman Durg Vijay Singh and his son Chandraprakash. At around 6 am, they boarded an auto from near Kamla Nagar tank to go to Raja Ki Mandi station.

Four people stopped an auto near Nehru Nagar turn on the highway. They abused people posing as policemen. On the pretext of searching, they looted Rs 8.26 lakh from Bhuvan Prakash. The accused left the place saying that they would come to the police station and talk. It was alleged that the people involved in the incident were wearing police uniform jackets. On the basis of the businessman’s complaint, the police had registered a case under the section of robbery against unknown accused.

Police took action against 8

During the investigation of the case, the police arrested Bhagirath, son of Shilu Mate, a policeman from Shastripuram, Jhansi, Sarvesh Kumar Yadav, a policeman from Kanpur, Hambir Singh, a policeman from Himmatpur, Agra, Sanjay Gupta alias Titu, son of the brother-in-law of a silver merchant, a resident of Sikandra, Ram Niwas, an auto driver from Kalindi Vihar, Anil Kumar Gupta, a resident of Hariparvat, Subhash Gupta from New Agra and Rajesh, a resident of Etmaddaula.

His testimony at the trial

During the trial, Bhagwan Das Gupta, investigating officer SI Mohammad Aslam, victim silver businessman Bhuvan Prakash Gupta, Deputy SP Omvir Singh testified on behalf of the prosecution. It was alleged that the police had tried to save their fellow policemen. The sealed bundle was opened and the recovered notes were taken out and replaced with other notes. The court took the act of the police seriously and directed the Police Commissioner to take action against the culprits after investigating the case.
