COVID-19 Vaccine: Hong Kong University Study Says Third Covid Booster Reduced Deaths By 90 Percent

COVID-19 Booster Dose: To prevent the corona epidemic, in some countries people are being given booster dose apart from covid vaccine. A study regarding booster dose has revealed that the third booster dose has reduced the deaths of corona patients by 90%. That is, the third booster dose is necessary to save people.

The deaths of corona patients decreased with the third booster dose.

A similar claim has been made in a study done in Hong Kong. According to the study, the third booster dose of the Kovid-19 vaccine was more effective than the first two doses, which is why a 90% reduction in the deaths of Kovid victims was recorded. At the same time, the death toll of those people with various health problems remained high, who had taken only 2 anti-covid doses.

The study, reported in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, compared data from people 18 years of age or older with two or more chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Research was done on the victims, in which people who took only 2 doses and those who took the third dose between November 2021 and March 2022 were researched.

“We found a significantly reduced risk of coronavirus-related death in adults with multimorbidity who received a homologous booster dose of BNT162b2, an mRNA vaccine, or CoronaVac, an inactivated whole-virus vaccine,” said expert Esther Chan from the University of Hong Kong. , “These results support the effectiveness of booster doses of vaccines from 2 different technology platforms in reducing mortality among people with multimorbidity among the Omicron outbreak.”

Hong Kong was impressed with the Omicron BA.2 variant

According to the researcher, at the end of the year 2021, the Omicron (BA.2) variant affected Hong Kong. Where the highest corona death rate was recorded worldwide relative to the population of 75 lakh people. From 11 November 2021, there were elderly, health care professionals and other primary groups receiving booster doses of BNT162b2 mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech) or CoronaVac (Synovac) vaccine. By January 1, 2022, all others also started taking doses, as a result of which in the first 4 months of 2022, more than 30 lakh people had received booster doses.

The Hong Kong University study included 120,724 people who got the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, out of which 87,289 were those who got a booster dose and 127,318 were those who took the CoronaVac, including 94,977 who got a booster.

Deaths of those who were dosed with CoronaVac increased

The researcher said that there were more deaths in the dose of CoronaVac than in those who took the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. He said that these results highlight the potential benefits of booster drives, especially in vulnerable populations. Also, the recent data on older people and people with chronic problems is overwhelming for future booster doses of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines beyond the first booster. Now, on the basis of many such evidences, the latest study conducted in Hong Kong will be able to explain that promoting the third booster dose provides strong protection against deaths due to corona.

A scientist from the University of Hong Kong said, “Our findings suggest that at this point in time, large-scale public health measures have played an important role in reducing the death rate amid the pandemic, especially in the case of people with multiple complications .”
