Covid Variant EG.5.1: The shadow of Covid has not ended over the world yet. This epidemic that started in 2020 is not taking the name of ending even after almost three years. Different variants of Kovid virus are coming out all over the world. In this episode, information about the spread of a new covid variant in Britain has come to the fore. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has given information about this.
According to the UKHSA, one out of every seven cases reported in the UK is related to this variant. Scientists have named the new variant as EG.5.1. EG.5.1 variant of Kovid omicron Derived from Variant. UKHSA says that most cases of the new variant have been seen in Asia. EG.5.1 was registered as a new variant in the UK on 31 July.
Cases increased due to new variants in Britain
According to a Sky News report, in the week starting July 10, each of the first 9 cases was linked to the EG.5.1 variant. New data shows that it accounts for 14.6% of the UK’s total new Covid cases. It has become the second most dangerous variant spreading rapidly in Britain. The new variant is spreading rapidly and because of this the Covid cases are increasing.
Officials are monitoring the situation
British officials have said that they are keeping a close eye on the situation. Dr Mary Ramsay, head of immunization at the UKHSA, said: ‘We have seen an increase in hospital admissions across all ages, particularly the elderly. He said, ‘At present the admission rate in the hospital is very low and not many people are admitted in the ICU. We are closely monitoring the situation.
Keeping an eye on the new variant of WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) says that it has started monitoring the EG.5.1 variant for the last two weeks. WHO director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that even though people are safe because of the vaccine, it does not mean that any country should be lax. All the governments are requested not to end the system made regarding Kovid-19.
