Delhi has been put on high alert in view of the increasing number of respiratory patients in China. The Health Department has ordered all hospitals to be especially alert.

Doctors say that in view of the increasing cases of respiratory diseases in China, Delhi Health Services Director General (DGHS) Dr. Vandana Bagga held a high-level meeting. It discussed preparedness against health challenges related to human metapneumovirus (HMPV) and other respiratory viruses. An emergency has not been declared at this time, but seasonal trends indicate an increase in acute respiratory infections. It may be caused by the circulating influenza A (H1N1) strain. HMPV and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can cause respiratory disease.
Data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) show that respiratory viral infections are not increasing in the country. Dr Bagga held a meeting with Chief District Medical Officers and State Program Officers on Sunday to stress the need for continuous monitoring and rapid response mechanisms.
