Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited the Bhalswa landfill site on Thursday. During this, he announced that by March next year, the mountain of garbage will end from Bhalswa. 30 lakh metric tonnes of waste will be lifted from Bhalswa landfill site by December and the entire waste will be disposed of by March-April. From Wednesday, nine thousand metric tonnes of garbage is being collected daily, which will be doubled by the end of March. He was accompanied by Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, Mayor Shelly Oberoi, Deputy Mayor Aale Iqbal.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that in the last 30 years the Bhalswa landfill site has become a big garbage mountain. The garbage of entire Delhi comes here. The work of removing this garbage mountain is going on. Garbage removal started from here in the year 2019 after the order of NGT. At that time, about 80 lakh metric tonnes of waste was present at the Bhalswa landfill site. From the year 2019 till date, 30 lakh metric tonnes of garbage has been removed, while 50 lakh metric tonnes is still lying at the site. In about two-and-a-half years, 30 lakh metric tonnes of garbage has been removed, but now a target has been set to remove 30 lakh metric tonnes of garbage by December and by March-April next year, the remaining 50 lakh metric tonnes of garbage will be removed from the landfill site. . Now the work of garbage removal is going on at double the speed.
He said that separate arrangements have been made for the garbage coming to the landfill site. Additional arrangements have been made for the disposal of this garbage and it is being disposed of continuously. About 11,000 metric tonnes of garbage is generated daily in Delhi. Out of that, there is arrangement for disposal of more than 8100 metric tonnes of garbage. At the same time, about 2800 metric tonnes of garbage is being saved daily. For this, the work of increasing the additional capacity of one thousand metric tonnes is going on in Okhla. To dispose of this waste, a two thousand metric ton waste to energy plant is being built in Bawana, which will be ready by 2026. Till then, temporary arrangements have been made to dispose of the new garbage daily. Every day 10,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste is generated from the Bhalswa site and 2,000 metric tonnes of waste is disposed of every day.
Highlights of Bhalswa Landfill Site
The Bhalswa landfill site is a 28 year old site. It is spread over 70 acres. The height of this landfill was 65 meters from the ground. When the survey was conducted in 2019, it was found to have 80 lakh metric tonnes of garbage. Since then 24 lakh metric tonnes of new waste has been dumped at the site and 30.48 lakh metric tonnes of waste has been biomined there. During biomining, legacy waste is segregated into three components, inert waste, construction and demolition waste and refuse derived fuel, out of which the inert and C&D waste is being used to fill vacant land in NHAI projects in and around Delhi. Is. The waste derived fuel is being used in cement factories, power plants and plastic recycling plants.
