A Delhi court on Friday sent AAP MLA Naresh Balyan to judicial custody in a case related to alleged organized crime, while refusing to grant his further remand to the police. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja passed the order when Balyan was produced before the court at the end of the seven-day police custody granted earlier in the case.

The judge rejected Delhi Police’s plea seeking additional 10-day custody of him in the case registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). Special public prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh, representing Delhi Police, sought further police custody of Balyan, saying he needed to be interrogated to unearth the larger conspiracy in the case.

Balyan was produced before the court after the expiry of the seven-day police custody granted earlier in the case. The MLA was arrested on December 4 in an alleged organized crime case, while a court had earlier granted him bail in an alleged extortion case.
