Billing executive Gyan Prakash and sales executive Sarita Pathak were stealing jewelery from a jewelery showroom located in Lajpat Nagar. Taking advantage of the loophole in the showroom’s software, they have stolen jewelery worth several crores and sold the stolen jewelery worth lakhs of rupees in the same showroom. Lajpat Nagar police has arrested both of them. 2.2 kg jewelery and Rs 10.60 lakh have been recovered from their possession.

Rohit Bhuttan, manager of Ramakrishna Jewellers, located in Phase-II, Lajpat Nagar, had complained to the police on July 2 about a large quantity of jewelery being stolen from the showroom. He alleged that Billing Executive Gyan Prakash and Sales Executive Sarita Pathak stole jewelery from the showroom and falsified accounts.

After registering the case, the team of Havildar Nitin Kumar started investigation under the supervision of SI Pradeep Malik posted at Lajpat Nagar police station. After a long investigation, SI Pradeep Malik’s team arrested Gyan Prakash, resident of Dwarkapuri, Dabri and Sarita Singh Pathak, resident of Sector-22, Noida UP. South-East District Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Deo said that the accused had kept the stolen jewelery hidden in their homes. 258 grams of gold and Rs 10 lakh 50 thousand were recovered at the instance of Gyan Prakash and 1968.40 kg of jewelery and Rs 10 thousand were recovered at the instance of Sarita. These people were stealing jewelery from the showroom for eight-nine months.

This is how they used to execute the incident

The accused used to take advantage of the loophole in the software installed in the showroom. While working, Gyan Prakash came to know about it. In the interrogation of SI Pradeep Malik, it was revealed that the accused used to enter the tag of jewelery in the software. As soon as the tag was inserted, the karat, weight and price etc. of the jewelery used to come. Initially, they used to put jewelery tags with low weight and price. After this, cleverly, they used to enter the tag of other heavy weight and high cost jewelery in the same tag.

As soon as the entry was made, the software used to show the information of other jewelery as sold. After that they used to take him home. Similarly, they used to enter the tag and information of the third jewelery in the same tag. As soon as the entry was made, the details of the sold second jewelery used to appear and sold was visible on the third jewellery. The accused used to know which customer had bought which jewelery and for how much. When a customer used to come to return the jewellery, he used to charge the manager accordingly by showing more quantity. He used to pay the customer according to the quantity of jewelery returned and keep the rest in his pocket. The more weight was shown, the more jewelery was kept in the showroom and it was sold again.

The accused have told during interrogation that both the accused used to steal jewelery only on Saturdays and Sundays. The showroom used to be more crowded on both these days. The day the jewelery was stolen, they used to carry it away in bags. They used to keep an eye on the CCTV cameras only.
