Expansion
The government is about to introduce the ‘time of day’ (ToD) rule for fixing electricity rates. If this happens, consumers across the country will be able to save up to 20 per cent on their bills by managing electricity consumption during solar hours ie day time. Under the TOD rule, different rates of electricity will be applicable for different times of the day. With its implementation, consumers will be able to avoid washing clothes, cooking and other power-consuming tasks during peak hours.
In the new system, consumers will be able to reduce their electricity bill by doing such work during normal working hours. Power and Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh said, the TOD system will definitely benefit the consumers and electricity providers.
The Ministry of Power said on Friday, to implement the new system, the government has made two changes in the existing electricity tariff system by amending the Electricity (Consumer Rights) Rules-2020. First…Initiation of Time of Day (TOD) Tariff System. The second… related to rationalization of smart meter provisions.
