Delhi Government on February 28 officially launched the Sugamaya Sahayak Scheme by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the public sector undertaking Alimco (PSU) for a period of five years. The scheme was notified on 23 January 2024.
Under Sugamaya Sahayata Yojana, eligible disabled person with benchmark disability will receive various assistive devices like artificial limbs, tricycle, motorized tricycle etc. Wheelchairs, BTE hearing aids, crutches axilla adjustable, braille canes, MSIED kits, braille kits and smartphones for the visually impaired, smart canes and ADL kits for leprosy patients and others will be provided.
Alimco will act as the responsible supply agency for conducting the assessment and providing adapted assistive devices to the disabled person with benchmark disability. To be eligible for participation in Sugamya Sahayak Yojana, applicants must satisfy the following criteria.
- The applicant must be a person with benchmark disability (40% or more disability).
- As per Disability Certificate/UDID Card.
- Must be a resident of National Capital Territory of Delhi.
- The annual income limit of the family from all sources should not exceed eight lakhs.
- It is necessary to have Aadhar card.
Cabinet Minister Raj Kumar Anand said persons with benchmark disabilities living in Delhi are encouraged to apply to the Department of Social Welfare to ensure that they meet the specified eligibility criteria. Sugamaya Sahayak Yojana reflects the Kejriwal Government’s commitment to inclusivity and is leading the way in its vision to create a more equitable society for all citizens.
