Mayor Shelly Oberoi has temporarily put a stop to the tender process for new parking in the corporation. This decision has been taken after the involvement of mafia in parking contracts and loss of revenue to the corporation came to the fore.
The mayor held a meeting with all the heads of departments at the Civic Center on Tuesday. In this, the Mayor discussed in detail about the works, present and upcoming projects of all the departments. Deputy Mayor Aale Mohammad Iqbal was also present in the meeting.
In the meeting, the officials of the Animal Department gave information related to animals including stray dogs to the Mayor. Mayor informed that complaints of dog bites are being received in different areas. There is a need to find a permanent solution to the problem. The official told the Mayor that if 70 per cent of the stray dogs are sterilized in a year, there would definitely be a reduction in the number of stray dogs in the coming years.
There is a plan to do microchipping of abandoned animals, which will make it easier to keep records of animals. The mayor directed the concerned officials to hold an early meeting with 17 NGOs involved in the lifting and sterilization of stray animals in the area.
The mayor discussed the advertising and profit project sale and the revenue generated from it. The senior officer apprised him about the new tender process for parking. After this, the Mayor ordered to stop the tender process of parking temporarily for the time being. This decision has been taken after the involvement of mafia in parking contracts and loss of revenue to the corporation came to the fore. He said that the tender process has been stopped to curb the parking mafia. LOIs will be issued only after checking the eligibility of each application.
Desilting will be done before June 15
The Mayor directed the officers that the work of desilting of drains of the corporation should be completed before the onset of monsoon and within the time limit. The officer told the mayor that the work of the first phase would be completed before June 15. Apart from this, he told the Mayor that the work of car parking near Nigambodh Ghat, Bagh Diwar and Chandni Chowk is almost complete and will be made operational in about two months. Apart from this, there is a plan to make car parking on PPP mode in Karol Bagh.
250 parks of less than one acre area identified
In the meeting, the Mayor discussed about the maintenance of the parks and gave instructions for proper maintenance in a time bound manner. The official of the concerned department said that in the first phase, 250 parks of less than one acre area have been identified, whose maintenance work will be completed by September 1.
Five new schools will be built in each zone
The education department official told the mayor that there is a plan to build five new schools in each zone. Work is going on on this. In this way 60 new schools will be constructed. The mayor talked about expediting this work. Along with this, talked in detail about the training of corporation teachers.
