Expansion
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has released a fund of 230 crores for the Narela-Rithala-Bawana corridor of Metro Phase-IV. With this, the way to run Metro till Narela will be easy. Lakhs of people living in outer North Delhi will get its direct benefit. With the commencement of Metro services on this corridor, the pace of development of DDA’s residential areas will also accelerate. DDA officials say that work will start on the corridor as soon as the central government’s permission is granted.
In fact, construction is underway on three corridors of Metro Phase-IV, while the metro network between Indraprastha-Indralok (12.37 km), Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block (8.38 km) and Rithala-Bawana-Narela (22.91 km) is under construction. to be expanded. All the preparations for this have been completed. Metrolite is proposed to be run in the area considering other aspects including the number of commuters and availability of land. Once Metrolite starts operating, it will be easy for the people living in GT Karnal Road and surrounding areas beyond Mukarba Chowk to reach any corner of Delhi. The Metrolite option has been chosen so that the network can be expanded according to the needs of the passengers at a low cost. This will be Delhi’s first Metrolite. The expenditure on this is about 40 per cent less than that of the normal metro. Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Vice Chairman Subhashish Pandya said that Rs 230 crore funding has been done for this corridor.
The network will be more than 400 kilometers long
At present, the metro is being operated within a radius of 391 km. Construction is going on for the expansion of Metro in 65 kilometers on all the three corridors of Phase-IV. With the commencement of services on the first corridor, the metro network will increase to more than 400 kilometers in length. More than 30 per cent construction has been done between Janakpuri West-RK Ashram and Tughlakabad to Aerocity and Maujpur-Majlis Park. Metro services will be started on all the three corridors by 2025.
Metrolite will be of 3- 4 coaches
Metrolite has fewer coaches. For sparsely populated areas, it is used as a feeder. Currently, there is no metro connectivity to outer Delhi and surrounding rural areas, which currently results in more time and cost for commuters to reach their destinations. It generally consists of 3-4 coaches. Tracks are laid at some distance from the road, so that vehicles can move freely. The maximum speed of Metrolite will be 60 kmph. However, Metro experts say that if needed, normal Metro can also run on this corridor instead of Metrolite.
