New Delhi. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed concern over non-availability of water according to the current population of the capital. The Center and the Supreme Court had fixed 800-850 MGD of water for the capital in the year 1997-98, he said. At that time the population of the capital was 80 lakhs, whereas today the population of the capital has increased to 2.5 crores, but the water supply of the capital has not been increased. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that if the central government gives 1300 MGD water to the capital, then the Delhi government will deliver water to every house within 24 hours. Therefore, the central government should help in getting water from the surrounding states.
He said that the Delhi government has increased the quantity of water by extracting water from the ground by installing tubewells and rainwells, but the supply of water to the capital from Yamuna and Ganga is still the same as it was before, even though the population of the capital has increased three times. And for that, water is also needed for eating, drinking, bathing, washing clothes and cleaning. In such a situation, there should be an increase in the water received from Yamuna and Ganga.
He said that in the year 2015, 861 MGD water was produced in the capital and today 990 MGD water is being produced. In this way, the AAP government has increased 129 MGD water in the last seven years. UP-Haryana did not give this increased water, rather the government increased it by taking it out of the ground through tubewells and rainwells. Apart from this, water purification plants of 50 MGD in Dwarka, 20 MGD in Bawana and 20 MGD in Okhla have been built. Apart from this, a recycling plant has been built in Nangloi to recycle water. Also, 500 new giant tube wells were installed to extract ground water. A 2250 km long pipeline has been laid to deliver water from house to house, due to which about 30 lakh houses have started getting water.
The Chief Minister gifted a new underground water reservoir to the people of East Delhi.
New Delhi. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the underground reservoir in Patparganj area on Sunday. This 110 lakh liter capacity newly constructed underground reservoir and booster pumping station will supply water to eight colonies including Pandav Nagar, Mayur Kunj, Pratap Vihar, Patparganj village and Chilla village and 31 societies of Mayur Vihar Phase-I. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also present. On this occasion, Arvind Kejriwal said that the AAP government has made 12 UGRs and work is being done very fast regarding the water problem. The faster the population increased in the capital, the faster the work should be done, but in the last 70-75 years the work was not done that fast.
