Expansion

Now orphan children will be able to study in Delhi University without fees and hostel expenses. In order to provide orphans an opportunity for higher education, the administration has decided to provide free education in its centenary year. The administration has made provision for reservation of one seat each for them in all classes. A decision to this effect has been taken in the Executive Council meeting held on Friday.

Giving this information, DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that one seat each will be reserved for orphan boys and girls in all classes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in all colleges and departments of the university. The education and hostel fees of the children who get admission on these seats will be completely waived.

He said that DU being a Central University of national and international repute has been responsible for providing education to the students seeking higher education without any discrimination on any grounds. With this decision of DU, every year those orphan children, who are unable to continue their studies due to financial constraints, will get an opportunity for higher education.

The Vice Chancellor said that these students include children who have unfortunately lost their parents. In such a situation, it is the social responsibility of the university to help such students. Realizing this, it has been considered to create one additional seat each for male and female orphan students for studies in each course at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in DU.

Expenditure will be given from University Welfare Fund

The Vice-Chancellor said that this expenditure on the education of orphans would be met from the University Welfare Fund or the College Students Welfare Fund. Students will be exempted from paying all kinds of fees through this fund. This will also include exemption from payment of their hostel fee, examination fee and other mandatory fees.
