Serious questions have been raised regarding the safety of women in DTC buses and cab-taxi in Delhi. Many times there has been indecency with women in these buses and taxis, and many times they have lost their lives too. To save women from these dangers, it has been made mandatory to install panic buttons in buses and taxis. But the BJP alleges that the panic buttons installed in these buses and taxis are not working. No assistance system has been prepared for pressing them, whereas Rs 900 is charged from every taxi and Rs 2200 from every bus per year for installing these buttons.
Delhi BJP leader Ramveer Singh Bidhuri has said that his team has stopped several buses and taxis and tested the panic buttons installed in them. Even after pressing the panic button of these buses, no response was received from any side. She alleged that the government collected huge amount from all the bus drivers for this, but did not prepare any system to help the women. He said that hundreds of crores of rupees have been recovered from buses and taxis under this head, but no work has been done on this. It should be investigated that where the collected money was spent.
The installation of panic buttons was started in 2019. For this, it was decided to charge Rs 900 per year from taxi drivers and Rs 22,00 per year from bus drivers. This amount is being recovered continuously for four years. Altogether, about 10,000 buses and thousands of taxis are registered in Delhi. In this way, in five years, about Rs 500 crore would have been recovered in the name of panic button.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that two months ago, the BJP had proved with evidence how the Kejriwal government was doing a scam by joining an NGO in the name of fitness of auto-rickshaws and other vehicles. He said that this forgery in the name of panic button is a serious mess with the safety of women and children.
