Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone of two new Delhi University campuses in East and West Delhi as well as a college in the name of Veer Savarkar on June 3. University sources gave this information. Savarkar College in Najafgarh will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 140 crore. It was approved by the DU Executive Council in 2021.

According to sources, the university has sent an invitation to PM Modi and is awaiting confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). At the same time, the university has allotted two plots in Najafgarh and Fatehpur Beri for the establishment of two colleges. The proposed eastern campus at Surajmal Vihar will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 373 crore. Whereas the cost of the western campus in Dwarka is expected to be Rs 107 crore. The Executive Council had also approved a proposal to name a college after late BJP leader Sushma Swaraj in 2021.

DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh was given the power to choose from a pool of names for the two upcoming colleges. This list of names includes names like Swami Vivekananda, Vallabhbhai Patel, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Savitribai Phule.
