Alprazolam (narcotic), often used in making sleep and depression medicines, was being manufactured illegally in a factory in Gajraula. The Special Cell of Delhi Police has exposed a drugs syndicate with the help of Narcotics Control Bureau. Police have arrested three accused in this regard. Apart from 4720 kg of finished Alprazolam, the police have recovered 1570 kg of raw material from the accused. The recovered Alprazolam (narcotic) is said to be worth more than Rs 1 crore in the international market.
The arrested accused have been identified as Rachit Kumar (22), resident of Shikhar Enlkev, Navodaya Nagar, Haridwar, Uttarakhand, Namit Chaudhary (34), resident of village Sidawali, Noorpur, Bijnor, UP and Vanga Rajendra Goud alias Raju (49), resident of Telangana. Namit used to buy Alprazolam from the factory owner in Gajraula and give it to Rachit. After receiving the news of police raid, the owner of the factory manufacturing Alprazolam absconded. With the help of aluminum foil, Rachit used to hide Alprazolam in special packing and send it through courier to Vanga Rajendra Goud and others in Telangana. Wanga used to increase the intoxication by mixing Alprazolam with toddy (intoxicating drink). Because of this, his toddy was in great demand in Telangana.
The Special Cell team is continuously raiding in search of the absconding factory owner. The matter is being investigated by interrogating the arrested accused. Police have recovered a large quantity of machine used to prepare Alprazolam from Gajraula’s factory. Continuous interrogation of the accused is going on.
This is how it was revealed
Special Cell Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kaushik said that his team had received information in February 2024 that some people were bringing narcotics from Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh to Delhi and sending them to South Indian states. After receiving the information, the team of ACP Kailash Singh Bisht, Inspector Vineet Kumar Tewatia, Rahul Kumar and others started investigation. Help of NCB team was also taken to reach the accused. Meanwhile, on April 25, the team raided the office of a courier company at IGI Airport. A suspicious courier recovered from here. Apart from raping her with aluminium, she was also hidden in three-four boxes of thick cardboard.
When the courier parcel was opened, two kilograms of Alprazolam was found in it. After investigation the team reached Haridwar. Police caught Rachit from there. At his instance, 1006 kg of Alprazolam was recovered. After interrogating Rachit, Namit was caught from Haridwar itself. 1712 kg Alprazolam was recovered from his house in Bijnor. Namit told that he used to bring Alprazolam from the factory running in Tapeshwar Temple, village Salempur, Gausai, Gajraula, UP. Immediately the team raided the factory after taking permission from the court to search there.
Even before the police reached the spot, the main accused and the factory owner fled from there. Police found huge quantities of finished and raw materials and machines from here. After interrogating both of them, the police arrested the accused from Telangana who had bought Alprazolam. He used to make toddy in Telangana and add alprazolam to it to increase its intoxication. The accused told that he used to prepare 900 boxes of toddy from just 100 grams of Alprazolam. The police is investigating the case by interrogating the accused.
Who are the arrested accused?
Rachit Kumar’s father provides laborers to a pharma company in Haridwar. Rachit himself has studied till 12th class, he runs his own restaurant in Haridwar. During this time he came in contact with Namit. After taking Alprazolam from Namit, he used to send it to different states of the country through courier.
Namit Chaudhary, originally from Bijnor, started working as MR in a pharmaceutical company after completing his graduation from Dehradun. His job was to provide raw materials to many pharmaceutical companies. During this time, he came in contact with the main accused and started purchasing Alprazolam from him and supplying it further.
Vanga Rajendra Gaur alias Raja lives in Telangana. He has a business of selling toddy with a license there. Earlier he used to sell toddy mixed with Diazepam, but when Diazepam was no longer available, he started selling toddy by mixing Alprazolam. Due to this his toddy sales increased significantly. The accused are being questioned by the police.
