Once again an accident occurred in Pragati Maidan Tunnel. This time SI of Delhi Police died. The deceased has been identified as NK Pavithran (57). The incident was captured in the CCTV camera installed in the tunnel. Initially, after seeing the CCTV footage, it seemed that the auto passing nearby hit the SI’s scooter.
On careful examination of the footage, it was found that the SI himself had hit the divider due to loss of balance, due to which he died. The police handed over the body to the family members after post-mortem. The family took the body to their ancestral home in Kerala. Tilak Marg police station is investigating the matter.
Senior police officers said that NK Pavithran, originally a resident of Kerala, lived with his family in Ashirwad Apartment located at IP Extension in East Delhi. The family consists of a wife and a son who works in Dubai. In the year 1987, Pavithran was recruited in Delhi Police. At present he was posted in the crime team of Eastern District.
At 10 pm on Saturday night, he was going home on scooty via India Gate. Meanwhile, he became a victim of an accident in the tunnel. Pavithran’s helmet was seen coming off as soon as the collision occurred. His head hit the divider directly. The tunnel guard informed the police. Later he was taken to Lady Hardinge Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and conducted the post-mortem of the body on Sunday. Police have registered the case and are investigating. The CCTV footage is being investigated thoroughly. The auto which was seen passing near them at the time of the accident is also being searched.
