Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested four ATM robbers after an encounter in Pul Prahladpur area. Police has recovered a pistol, cartridges, Rs 19.50 lakh and a car from their possession. The arrested robbers have been identified as Shahadat, Mohammad Hasim alias Chuna, Shakeel and Dilshad, residents of Mewat. The robbers had looted the money from SBI ATM in Guwahati, Assam. Police has claimed to have solved the case of looting two ATMs in Maharashtra and Assam.

Police officials said that the Special Cell team led by SI Jitendra was instructed to gather information about the ATM robbers. After investigation, the team identified the robbers. After that, the police kept a constant watch on the robbers. On June 26, the police team received information that four miscreants of the gang were roaming in a Baleno car in Shooting Range Road Pul Prahladpur.

On information, a team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Prafull Kumar and Ranjit Singh. Police laid siege near Shooting Range Road Pul Prahladpur. At around 4.45 pm, police saw the miscreants’ Baleno car parked in which four people were sitting. The police team surrounded the car from front and back and asked the miscreants to come out of the car. But the miscreants tried to escape from there by increasing the speed of the car. But their car collided with a tree.

The police surrounded their car. Meanwhile, the miscreant Shahadat, who came out of the car, fired a bullet at the police team. But the bullet did not hit anyone. The police team also retaliated and caught all four miscreants. During interrogation, it was found that the miscreants had stolen Rs 22.12 lakh from an ATM in Guwahati, Assam on June 24. The miscreants had divided the looted amount among themselves. Out of which the police recovered Rs 19.50 lakh.

They used to target unguarded ATMs in low light and deserted areas

During interrogation of the miscreants, it was revealed that the miscreants of the gang used to target unguarded ATM booths in low light and deserted areas. Before looting, they used to do a thorough recce of the area. To hide their identity, the miscreants used to spray black paint on the CCTV cameras after entering the ATM booth. Before entering the ATM, they used to try to hide their identity by wearing masks.

The police officer said that the arrested criminals had committed two crimes in Assam and one in Sambhaji Nagar in Maharashtra. They have looted a total of Rs 33.51 lakh. The car recovered from them is registered in the name of Sakil, a resident of Mewat, Haryana. Investigation revealed that the criminals of the gang have been involved in about 27 criminal cases including breaking ATMs in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Assam.
