Delhi Air Quality improved: There is some relief news for the people suffering from pollution in Delhi. After remaining very poor for four days in the national capital, Delhi’s air quality improved on Friday (October 25). Due to favorable wind speed the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 270. Although it is still in bad category.
Experts cautioned that the relief may be short-lived, as pollution levels are expected to rise again in three days due to changing weather conditions, PTI reported. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the 24-hour average AQI was recorded at 270 till 4 pm on Friday, while it was 306 on Thursday.
What was the pollution level in Delhi on October 25?
CPCB data showed that AQI levels in Anand Vihar, Jahangirpuri, Mundka and Wazirpur in the national capital were recorded in the very poor category on Friday, while 32 monitoring stations recorded poor air quality. In neighboring Greater Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, air quality was better in the moderate category.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.
How to improve Delhi’s air?
According to the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS), Delhi’s AQI improved to poor category due to sudden change in wind direction and speed. The wind has transferred from north-west to east and south-east. Similar winds are expected in the next one to two days, but due to adverse weather conditions, pollution levels may increase again in three-four days. AQI is likely to reach 400 by October 31.
GRAP-2 currently implemented in Delhi
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has currently implemented GRAP Phase 2 in Delhi. Consideration may be given to pursuing GRAP-3 or 4. During winter months, Delhi faces a severe increase in pollution due to factors like low wind speed, falling temperatures, high humidity levels, presence of pollution particles. Due to air pollution, the possibility of developing respiratory problems in people increases.
