Governments ranging from Central Government, State Government to Local Bodies Governments are making efforts to bring poor (EWS) children to schools to give them education. Despite this, public schools are hesitating to admit poor children in their schools. Poor children were not given admission in 124 public schools of the capital during the last two years.
On the other hand, out of the seats reserved for poor children in public schools across Delhi, 32.94 per cent seats remained vacant in the year 2021-22 and 29.60 per cent during the year 2022-23. This was disclosed by the Education Department in response to a question given by an MLA in the budget session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
There is a provision to reserve 25 percent seats for poor children in public schools that take land from government departments at concessional rates. In this way, in the year 2021-22, 39139 seats were reserved for poor children in public schools of all the 12 districts of the Education Department, whereas during the year 2022-23, the seats of poor children in public schools had increased to 46196, but both the years this All the seats were not completely filled.
In the year 2021-22, 12893 and 13678 seats remained vacant. After departmental action, some schools have given admission to poor children, but notices have been issued to many schools and even recognition of a renowned school has been cancelled.
In such a situation, some schools went to the court against the action of the department. His case is still under consideration in the court. According to the data received from the education department, maximum 7898 seats are reserved for poor children in public schools of West-B district.
