Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar was presented to eminent young writers of 24 Indian languages on Tuesday at Triveni Kala Sangam located at Mandi House. The award was given to Bhagwant Anmol in Hindi, Mihir Vats in English, Shruti Kanitkar in Sanskrit and Maqsood Afaq in Urdu. Vice President of Sahitya Akademi Madhav Kaushik presented these awards in the presence of chief guest and senior litterateur Mamta Kalia. The award winners were given an engraved copper plaque and an amount of Rs 50,000 each.
On this occasion, Academy Secretary K Srinivasa Rao said that youth keep the society alive and are the symbol of change. It is the duty of Sahitya Akademi to encourage and protect them as future trees. Vice President of Sahitya Akademi, Madhav Kaushik said that all the award winning young writers are creating a new Indian environment. Language constraints are no longer an important factor.
The new generation has many new means of expression and they are now presenting their creations by encroaching on many genres. Mamta Kalia said that the writing of the youth is full of hope. The new generation is full of new energy and its every act is encouraging. He also cautioned the younger generation that before writing, it is necessary to consider what not to write. The selection of the subject itself becomes the basis of excellent composition. He congratulated all the young award winners and said that this award will give them light and enthusiasm to win new awards like a kandil.
