The process of convening the meeting of the MCD House has started amidst the issue of Delhi Mayor’s election being pending in the Supreme Court. Following the MCD’s initiative on Thursday, the Delhi government has sent a proposal to the Lieutenant Governor to convene a meeting of the House on February 16. On Thursday, the MCD started the process of holding a meeting of the house for the election of the mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the standing committee. As soon as the file for convening the meeting of the House arrived from the Corporation Secretary’s office, the commissioner sent it to the Urban Development Department of Delhi Government. The department also immediately sent this file to the Lieutenant Governor. The department has sent a proposal to convene a meeting of the House on February 16 in a proposal sent to the Lieutenant Governor. The final decision on fixing the date of the meeting of the House is to be taken by the Lieutenant Governor.
Three meetings have been held so far
The meeting of the house for the mayor’s election has been held on January 6, 24 and February 6, but on all three days the councilors created ruckus in the meeting of the house and every time the councilors did not remain calm, the presiding officer Satya Sharma postponed the meeting till the next date. Postponed. In this way, the election of the mayor could not be held all the three times. Due to this, the MCD once again started the process of calling the meeting of the House.
Mayor’s candidate Shelly has challenged in the Supreme Court
On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party councilor Shelly Oberoi has challenged the issue of non-election of mayor in the Supreme Court. Shelly Oberoi is the mayoral candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party. The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Lieutenant Governor, Presiding Officer and others while hearing his petition on Wednesday. The next hearing on his petition in the Supreme Court will be held on Monday. Earlier on January 24, Shelly Oberoi had approached the Supreme Court even after the mayor’s election was not held, but even before her petition could be heard, the Lieutenant Governor had issued orders to convene the meeting of the House on February 6. Due to this, Shelly Oberoi had withdrawn her petition on February 3.
