Ram Vilas, resident of Darbhanga, Bihar, was beaten to death by the driver in a dispute over the removal of an e-rickshaw from the front of the shop in Jahangirpuri CD block on Thursday night. In view of the tense situation in the area, paramilitary forces along with police have been deployed.
In the case, the Jahangirpuri police station is engaged in identifying the absconding e-rickshaw driver by registering a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Police said that Ram Vilas lived in CD Block with his wife Kanti Devi and four children. He used to sell onions on street vendors in the area. On Thursday night, along with his wife and younger son Sandeep, he was selling onions by setting up a street vendor on the roadside of CD Block. Kanti Devi told that during this time an e-rickshaw driver came there and stopped the e-rickshaw in front of her street and started buying vegetables. Ram Vilas told the driver that there has been stone pelting at some distance, due to which the policeman has asked everyone to move away from here. That’s why he should remove his e-rickshaw from here.
There was an altercation between the e-rickshaw driver and Ram Vilas regarding this matter. The driver gestured to slap Kanti Devi, who was trying to intervene. Seeing this, Ram Vilas came in front of his street vendor. The driver started fighting with Ram Vilas. The accused punched her on the chest and pushed her. Due to which Ram Vilas’s head hit the railing and he became unconscious. Seeing this, the accused fled from the spot along with the e-rickshaw. Sandeep immediately took his father in a rickshaw and reached Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. Where doctors declared him dead. After getting information about the incident, the police reached the hospital and took the dead body into custody.

The police officer said that on Thursday night the police got information about stone pelting in CD block Jahangirpuri. Police reached the spot and found Sanjay injured. Who told the police that in the night some boys from Bengali Basti were demanding money by playing drums for Tajia. Sanjay came out of the house and told those people that he had heart disease and was feeling restless. So he goes to another block. On this, a boy hugged him, while someone hit his head with a brick from behind. After this, someone informed the police about stone pelting in the CD block. The police asked all the shops in the market to be closed. In this matter, three minors have been caught by the police and the investigation is on.

The CD block of Jahangirpuri where the vegetable seller was killed is a very sensitive area. In the same area, in the year 2022, some people pelted stones at the procession being taken out on Hanuman Jayanti. After that violence broke out here. In view of which, after getting the information of stone pelting, police and paramilitary forces were immediately deployed here.
