The case of tomato theft has come to the fore amid skyrocketing prices. In a vegetable market in Najafgarh, a woman stole 4 to 5 tomatoes from a vegetable seller. Vegetable seller Manoj called on Dial-100 and informed the police. The police who came on the spot took the accused woman into custody after checking the CCTV footage. In the police station, the vegetable seller complained about the theft of about five kilos of tomatoes. After several hours of dispute, when the woman gave Rs 700 to the vegetable seller, a written agreement was reached between both the parties.
According to Dwarka district police officials, Manoj, a vegetable seller, made a PCR call to the police and informed that a woman had stolen 4 to 5 tomatoes from him in the Najafgarh vegetable market. Registering DD entry number-0051 of the incident, Havildar Suraj from Najafgarh police station reached the spot and took the woman into custody after seeing the footage.
It was later learned that the incident took place at Baba Haridas Nagar police station in Dwarka district. Here the vegetable seller Manoj told the police that a total of five kilos of tomatoes were stolen from him. The police officers explained to the woman and said that legal action would be taken. After this the woman gave 700 rupees to Manoj. The police got written resignations from both the parties and sent them home.
Manoj told that he sets up a vegetable shop in Dhansa village. The cost of the stolen tomatoes was more than Rs 1000. On the day of the incident, tomatoes were sold at Rs 200 per kg in the wholesale market in Delhi. However, at present tomato is being sold at Rs 100 to 120 kg in the wholesale market and Rs 150 to 150 kg in the retail market.
