The superstar with whom Dev Anand was madly in love was none other than the nightingale Lata Mangeshkar. The actor himself had once admitted this.
During an interview with Subhash K Jha of Rediff, Dev Anand had once revealed that Lata Mangeshkar was not just a colleague but the love of his life.
Dev Anand also admitted how “beautiful” Lata Mangeshkar was. She had told why he had refused to call her sister. This label was given to him again and again in the industry.
Dev Anand once said about Lata Mangeshkar, “Who would want to call this attractive woman their sister! She is beautiful Lata, the love of my life.”
Dev Anand also said that she was the only one in the film industry for whom he could stop shooting because the work could go on without others, not without Lata. A creeper is a creeper. We can’t do without others, Lata.
She was known for canceling recordings at the last minute. This is because she was a perfectionist. She always said, “When I record, only a few people listen. But when the song is released, millions of people listen to it. I can’t take the risk of being less than my best version.” Dev Anand Said, ‘I will happily wait for him.’
Lata Mangeshkar also liked Dev Anand very much. Talking about them, he once said, “It’s not just the songs we did together, they were memorable for us and the listeners. This was the same man who was Devsahab. Very beautiful in appearance and in action. I worked with him for decades. Never heard him raising his voice against anyone.
Lata Mangeshkar and Dev Anand have created some of the most memorable songs in Bollywood history. Some of these iconic songs are Dheere Dheere Chal from the film Love Marriage (1959), and Abhi Na Jao Chhodkar from Hum Doon (1961).
