Dharmendra on his Drinking Habit: Bollywood’s He-Man Dharmendra is one of those bindaas actors who live their life freely. Whatever he does, he accepts it openly and even today he tells his old stories. 88-year-old Dharmendra still works out, swims, does farming and stays fit. There was a time when he used to drink alcohol every day and he himself accepted this.
Whenever Bollywood parties are mentioned, different stories about Dharmendra are heard. Most people say that when Dharmendra starts drinking, he does not stop. On this, Dharmendra told in an interview that he drank a lot of alcohol at one time but his liver was fine.
Dharmendra told his old stories
Dharmendra once went as a guest on Rajat Sharma’s show ‘Aapki Adalat’. There he was accused that why do people say that ‘when he drinks, he never stops?’ So Dharmendra spoke openly on this. He said, ‘Life should always be enjoyed. I used to drink at parties but my liver is still strong.’
Dharmendra further said, ‘Now when I look in the mirror, the mirror tells me that love killed you, alcohol killed you, otherwise you would not have found someone equal to you. I still give the same answer. Feeling a bit embarrassed that if there was no alcohol, no love, no life, then there would be no drinking.’
Then Rajat Sharma asked that you used to drink non-stop for many days? To this Dharmendra said, ‘It is not like that, in between I used to quit for 6-6 months. I used to play badminton, sweat a lot and keep myself fit. Then I used to party and I used to be a bit of an extremist too. I liked partying and keeping myself fit.’
Dharmendra narrated the story of ‘Sholay’
When Dharmendra was asked whether he was the biggest drunkard in the industry? Dharmendra narrated an incident related to the film Sholay. He said, ‘Our cameraman Jim, who used to work with us in ‘Sholay’, used to have the habit of carrying 5-6 bottles of beer with him. I used to sit behind him and drink a bottle secretly. When the production people told them that he drank 12 bottles, they were shocked and they started saying how did this happen. I don’t know. One day they caught me doing this. I always say that one should enjoy life.’
