Before the release of the film, we read big things related to the film on various social media platforms like ‘Who was Amar Singh Chamkila’ and ‘Who was Amarjot Kaur. When and how did both of them die? But do you know what happened to Amar Singh Chamkila on the night of his death?
Who wanted to take the life of Amar Singh Chamkila?
In the year 1988, Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot Kaur were shot with bullets by some people riding a bike in Meshampur, Punjab. What actually happened to Amar Singh that night has been told by his band’s ‘dhol player’ ‘Lal Chand’.
While talking to Noble TV Canada in the year 2020, Lal Chand said- ‘Even before his death, Amar Singh Chamkila had started receiving death threats. This is because Chamkila’s success was becoming a political conflict. When there were riots in 1984, Chamkila had somehow saved his life and he was going to tell us who was after his life.
Amarjeet Kaur was hit by the first bullet
Lal Chand further said- ‘On the day of the show, we were sitting together before reaching the venue. Then Amar told us – Don’t worry, I have sung the songs, not you. The bullet which has my name written on it will hit me only. At that time, there were posters of Amar Singh’s film in Meshampur which we were going to watch in the cinema hall after the show.
Then some people started attacking us with bullets. At that time only I, Amar and Amarjot were in the car. Then a masked attacker came and started firing bullets at Amarjot with his machine gun. Seeing the blood flowing from Amarjot’s head, Amar Singh said – Babbi Tenu ki hoya… Lal said – ‘Before that day I did not know that Amar Singh lovingly called Amarjot ‘Babbi’. After this the attackers also shot Amar Singh with bullets.
