Before Diwali 2024, political uproar has erupted due to the hoardings of Bajrang Dal in many states of the country and the statement of a UP BJP leader. Former BJP MP from UP Harish Dwivedi has appealed to shop only from Hindu shops. Similarly, in Madhya Pradesh, Bajrang Dal has put up hoardings from Bhopal to Dewas asking Hindus to do Diwali shopping.
However, the hoardings put up by Bajrang Dal do not openly talk about purchasing from Hindus like the BJP leader. It is written on the posters of Bajrang Dal that ‘Your festival, behave with your own people’. Buy on Diwali from those who can celebrate Diwali with your purchases.
‘Shop only from Sanatani family’
Former MP from Basti, UP, Harish Dwivedi, while posting on X, wrote, “On the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras and Diwali, the holy festival of Hindus, all of you Sanatan Dharmi brothers are requested to shop only from the shop of your Sanatani family and celebrate the festival. Celebrate with pomp and show with your loved ones.
Usually this kind of atmosphere is seen regarding goods coming from China. Before Diwali or any other festival, the appeal to boycott Chinese goods comes to the fore. However, the BJP leader’s appeal is being seen as being directly linked to Muslims.
Opposition parties including Congress targeted
All the opposition parties including Congress have targeted BJP on this matter. At the same time, BJP’s alliance partner JDU in Bihar has tried to give such a message to Muslim voters in this matter, so that it does not suffer political loss. JDU spokesperson Anjum Ara said that our country has the culture of Ganga Jamuna. During the festival of Chhath, Muslim women keep a fast and cook a stove and on that stove, women of Hindu religion observe Chhath fast.
