The festival of Diwali is celebrated on the new moon date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. According to mythological beliefs, on the date of Kartik Amavasya, Lord Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya after spending 14 years in exile and conquering Lanka. In whose joy all the people of Ayodhya celebrated this day by lighting lamps to welcome their king Prabhu Ram. For this reason this tradition has been going on since then.

Astrologer Dr. Anish Vyas, Director of Pal Balaji Astrology Institute, Jaipur – Jodhpur, said that the five-day Diwali 2024 festival will be of six days this year.

This time the festival of Diwali will start from Dhanteras on 29th October. This great festival will end with Hanuman Jayanti on 30 October and Chhoti Diwali or Roop Chaudas on 31 October and Deepawali on 1 November 2024, Annakoot and Govardhan Puja on 2 November 2024 and Bhaiya Dooj on 3 November 2024.

The first festival will start from the worship of Lord Kuber on Trayodashi of Kartik Krishna Paksha and will continue till the donation of lamps to Yamraj, the god of death. Lakshmi Puja also has special significance on the day of Diwali. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati are worshiped during the auspicious time in the evening and night. Dhanteras is considered the first day of Diwali. After this, Narak Chaturdashi, then Diwali, Govardhan Puja and finally the festival of Bhaiya Dooj is celebrated.
