Everyone knows that trees also have life. However, in the beginning it was only a concept, which took a long time to prove scientifically. There are many similar beliefs which are not clear till date, but people feel that they have been proved scientifically. One such belief is that trees in the forest talk to each other with the help of a system of fungi present inside the ground. This has been analyzed in the new study. Let’s know what came out in this.
Not yet scientifically proven
Of course the concept sounds weird and tempting, it was even mentioned on the popular Apple TV show Ted Lasso. But, University of Alberta expert Justin Karst has said that the science behind all this has not yet been proven.
keeping the roots together
This article was published in the journal Natural Ecology and Evolution. In which Karst and his colleagues present their views on popular claims about fungi that exist underground. It is said about this fungus that it keeps the roots together. Karst says the research on CMN has fueled interest in forest fungi. Interestingly, the existence of CMN has been scientifically proven, but the researchers have clearly stated that there is no concrete evidence that they provide any benefit to the trees or their seedlings. < /p>
Not enough evidence, still just a concept
Karst and his co-authors reviewed the evidence from field studies and found that there is insufficient evidence that CMNs are widespread in forests, and that their structure and functions are not known. However, scientists said that only very few forests have been investigated. There is also a claim that adult trees provide nutrition and other resources to the seedlings through CMN and they help in their survival and growth. Whereas nothing like this could be proved in the research. There were a total of 26 studies on this, in one of which Karst himself is a co-author. Researchers have found that CMN does not play a role in the transfer of resources from below ground into trees. So it is still just a concept.
