Do you also buy weight loss medicine without prescription? This study will blow your mind

Weight Loss Medicine : If you are also buying weight loss medicine without prescription, then be careful. A study has revealed a very shocking thing. It has been told that those who buy weight loss medicine online without prescription are at risk of getting fraud or getting bad product. A study published in JAMA Network Open has told that about 42% of online pharmacies selling semaglutide, the active component in Novo Nordisk’s obesity-relieving drug Wegovy, are illegal, which are selling medicines without license.

Disadvantages of buying non-prescription weight loss drugs

Tim McKay, author of the study and professor of global health at the University of California, San Diego, said that people who are buying weight loss drugs online are getting dangerous products, which can have very serious and risky effects on the body.

Dr. Christopher McGowan, Director of Research and Founder of True You Weight, said that the popular weight loss drug belongs to a category of drugs called JLP-1S. Its shortage medicines are being sold on the black market. He said that poor quality medicines are reaching patients from illegal pharmacies, which can be extremely dangerous.

Why are these medicines dangerous?

A separate study published in the JAMA Health Forum on Friday said that semaglutide has become very popular in recent times. More than 2.5 million prescriptions were reported in the US by December 2023. Not everyone can meet the demand for such medicines which cost up to $ 1,300 per month. When many people do not find this medicine at the local pharmacy, they start looking online. Where semaglutide is also sold as Ozempic to treat type 2 diabetes.

Sugar level may drop

Mackay’s study examined samples of semaglutide ordered from six online pharmacies. One bottle of semaglutide contained high levels of endotoxin, a toxin found in bacterial cells. However, the researchers did not find live bacteria that could cause infection.

Exposure to pollution can make people feel sick. Testing of the samples found that the medicines sold online contained 39% more semaglutide than what was written on the label, which can be dangerous if overdosed. According to the FDA, an overdose of semaglutide can cause severe nausea and vomiting. It can also cause a drop in blood sugar levels, which can lead to unconsciousness.
