This word had come into existence 80 years ago i.e. in 1938 through gas light. The Gas Light is a play by Patrick Hamilton which was adapted into two films in the 1940s. Gaslighting means playing with someone psychologically for a long time. He has to be confused in such a way that he starts doubting his thoughts and himself.
