Mumbai: Neither there is any element of comedy on the face of the hero of the film, nor is the story such that there are some laugh-out-loud scenes in it, but watching the Tamil film “Doctor” you remain confused the whole time. What kind of film is this film supposed to be? Is this an action film? Is this a love story? Is this a detective story? Is this a comedy film? What is a doctor after all? After searching a lot, you might get the answer that without asking, a comedy stunt has been inserted in the action of open heart operation to make the film worth watching. It is such a long and meandering film that you might not like it, although it is the third most successful Tamil film to hit the theaters this year.
The protagonist of the film is a doctor in the army and wants to lead a life according to law and order, keeping profession in place of emotions. He sees a girl dancing and laughing at a wedding and goes to meet her family members. The girl refuses but the fate of the cat sneezes and at the same time the girl’s niece gets kidnapped. Our doctor hero reaches the real villain with the help of life’s sacrifice, military’s acquaintance, a little sharp wit and a little shaky script. Finishes her off, rescues the heroine’s niece and other girls as well. The girl finally likes this act of the doctor and they end the film by getting married.
Sivakarthikeyan is the hero and producer of the film. Even the neck button of the shirt is kept closed because this is the job of the button. The face is kept serious. Voice even more serious. Don’t try to understand why the dialogue delivery is kept flat. In Tamil films, many times the use of logic is avoided. The ease with which he takes advantage of his being a doctor seems strange because in the beginning of the film he is described as a big law lover. In order to carry out a kidnapping operation, he calls the entire family to the military, where he has no choice but to listen to his senior, while he does not listen to one of his retired seniors (Milind Soman). Well, don’t waste time on logic. The film’s heroine Priyanka Arulmohan had to look beautiful except for one scene. She has also been seen. This is her first Tamil film, before that Priyanka has worked in a total of 3 Telugu films. Actor Vinay Rai with hero-like personality is in the role of villain of the film, who is such a dreaded and intelligent villain that he sees everything clearly except Hero’s trickery. It is surprising that the leader of a gang who kidnaps girls from different parts of the country and prepares to sell them further is so stupid. But let it go.
There are other actors in the film like Raghu Ram and Rajeev Laxman (of Roadies). It’s a very silly role. The fight between Hero and them wearing night-vision goggles in the dark in a metro train is hilarious. Comedy without reason. Yogi Babu is also a famous comedy artist. He is also doing comedy. Becomes Hero’s companion and while overacting, is seen doing kidnapping deals with Villain. The villain becomes both stupid and blind. This was probably the last film of Hindi television and film actor Bikramjeet Kanwarpal, who was a Major in the Army. He had died due to Kovid. His role also seemed strange, although it was very small. Only he can tell why Milind Soman did this film. The film has been written in such a strange way that one feels pity for the intelligence of the characters. Actors like Mahali (Sunil Reddy) and Killi (Shiva Aravind) unsuccessfully try to do comedy in between, but the situations are created in such a way that the audience gets to know that there is laughter here.
The film is written by director Nelson Dilipkumar. If you understand the origin of the story, then a good story is seen that what efforts an army doctor makes to save his fiancee’s niece from the clutches of a kidnapper. But the difference between director Nelson and writer Nelson is visible in the film. This is only the second film of Nelson as a director, but due to the lack of logic, the film has also become weak. The film’s composer Anirudh Ravichander (Kolaveri Di) has given good music. Anirudh is responsible for bringing and keeping Nelson in films. The songs of the film are good. The music of Nelson’s first film was also given by Anirudh. Tamil superstar Vijay’s next film is “Beast” in which Nelson (writer director) and Anirudh (composer) will once again meet. By the way, there is a song in this film which has been made on Tiktok’s ban in India and has been written by Sivakarthikeyan himself.
The film has been made on serious issues like child trafficking, human trafficking. In this, songs and dances and very clichéd humour, physical comedy and comedy of untimely have been crammed in. Sivakarthikeyan himself has been a standup comedian, so maybe that habit does not go away, but the kind of seriousness that was needed for this film, has suddenly ended due to comedy. The film is long. Since it is successful at the box office, hundred sins are forgiven, but putting comedy stunts in the film does not open the nerves of the mind.
