By performing surgery on a 10-year-old child at IMS BHU, the doctors have given him a new life by removing the tumor that had spread to the kidney and major nerves of the body. A team of 20 doctors performed surgery for about 10 hours and removed a tumor weighing about one and a half kilograms. This type of surgery was done for the first time in Purvanchal including BHU. Now the child is completely healthy after the surgery. He will be discharged in a day or two. After this, chemotherapy will continue at Mahamana Cancer Institute.

After getting information about tumor in a 10 year old child resident of Gopalganj, Bihar, the family first took him to the Cancer Institute. After this, when it was found that the tumor had spread rapidly in his kidney and in the main vein of the body, IVC, he brought him to Prof. Vaibhav Pandey in the BHU Pediatric Surgery Department. Pro. According to Vaibhav, after investigation it was found that there was a tumor in the kidney in the stomach. It spread from leg to hand through the kidney vein i.e. IVC.

Prof. Vaibhav told that in the surgery, first the kidney was removed, after which the tumor spread in the vein was also removed. The surgery was very complicated, because of the IVC vein which runs from the leg vein, main vein, liver vein to the heart. Because of this the patient had to be taken on bypass.

Need of five lakhs, surgery done for Rs 25 thousand

In the team headed by Prof. Vaibhav Pandey of BHU Child Surgery Department, Prof. Along with Ruchira, Professor Arvind Pandey and Professor Siddharth Lakhotia (Cardiothoracic Surgery), Dr. Pratibha Rai (Cardiology), and other doctors including Dr. RB Singh and Dr. Sanjeev (Anaesthesiology), Dr. Bhanumati Koshik, Dr. Seth Kachhap. Did surgery. In this, Dr. Pratibha Rai did a detailed assessment of the extension of the tumor to the heart, while Dr. RB Singh and Dr. Sanjeev prepared a detailed plan to manage the possible risks during anesthesia and operation.
