Chhatarpur: A unique and shocking case has come to light in Gaurihar district of the district, where 55-year-old Sukru Ahirwar is struggling due to his extraordinary hunger. Sukru’s story will force you to think. The life of Sukru, who belongs to a poor family, has been full of difficulties. Due to poverty, he left his studies midway and despite getting the opportunity of a government job, he was not able to go out to fulfill his responsibilities towards the family. This decision made his life more difficult, and he has been working as a laborer for the last 45 years.
Exceptional appetite: 14 rotis and 1 kg flour at once
Sukru Ahirwar’s appetite is much more than normal. He tells Local 18, “I have to eat 1 kg of flour at a time. When I feel hungry, I eat wet flour mixed with jaggery because it takes time to prepare. Even at this age I can eat 14 rotis at one go. Apart from this, I eat 10 gram flour laddus, 1 kg jalebi, all this in one go, but I get such food once in many months.”
The family left us due to hunger
Due to Sukru’s extreme hunger, his family has also abandoned him. His earning children also became upset with his diet and distanced themselves from him. Even his wife does not pay him any attention. Sukru says, “Now I cook and eat food myself. While working as a labourer, I often ask him to give me flour and rice instead of money, because only flour has to be bought with money so that I can fill my stomach.”
Even government grains are not enough
Although they get 5 kg of food grains every month from the government, but considering their needs, this grain gets exhausted within a few days. The daily allowance of Sukru Ahirwar is so high that the grain received in a month is not enough to satisfy their hunger.
I am filling my stomach by working as a laborer.
Even in his old age, Sukru is working as a laborer, but a major part of his earnings is spent on his food. His situation is so difficult that he gives priority to food items over money. He says, “I have to work just to feed myself. Whatever money I get, it all gets spent on food, but still I cannot fill my stomach.”
On one hand, this story of Sukru Ahirwar is a vivid depiction of poverty and hunger, while on the other hand, it shows how a person’s life can become a struggle in some extraordinary circumstances. For them, food has become not just a necessity but a challenge.
